Despite her fervent beliefs, Uchiha Sasuke did not make his home in the darkest, dankest cave deep within the bowels of a forbidding forest.  Nor did he congeal out of the primordial ooze of some teeming, prehistoric cesspool.  He lived in a house, situated on the corner, in a neighborhood she found very familiar – if she walked six blocks down and three blocks over, she'd be near her own house.  Dimly, she wondered if her dark-haired classmate was aware of this…

Picturesque in its domesticity, the Uchiha residence held a large front porch and grassy yard, all of which was surrounded by a low picket fence.  A rather large maple was situated in the front corner, a tire swing hanging from one of its lower boughs.  The rope was faded and weathered with age, but Naru was willing to bet it was sturdy enough to bear her weight.

How peculiar… Were it not for the dark blue mailbox bearing the kanji Uchiha in stark white strokes, the blonde would have thought it a joke.  Was she really expected to believe that he lived here?

Sasuke had just opened the front door, pushing it open for her to enter when he realized that she was still standing at the front gate, staring at his mailbox as if it was the most fascinating thing she had ever seen.  His eyes narrowed in irritation; he hoped she wasn't about to go rifling through his mail like those annoying girls at school…

"I didn't drag you all the way here so that you could gawk at my mailbox," he said irritably.  The blonde started, peering up at him in surprise through sopping wet bangs.  She looked even more like a drowned kitten than she had back at the school.  "Get in here before I leave you out here to freeze."

She bristled, preparing to fire off a disparaging mark of her own, but paused when she remembered that the Uchiha was offering her sanctuary from the deluge.  It took a monumental effort, but she held her tongue and cautiously made her way up the path to the porch, up to his side.

Although surprised by her sudden compliance, Sasuke said nothing as he gestured for her to step inside.  She did so uncertainly, hovering hesitantly at the edge of the genkan – something a bit out of place in the European-styled abode – as he vanished off down the hall in search of towels.

She was in his house.  She was actually standing in Uchiha Sasuke's house.  Naru couldn't help feel a small amount of wonder at the thought.  It was an unspoken rule amongst his fan club that his private residence was off limits, and yet here she stood – at his insistence, no doubt.  She could only imagine what Ino and Sakura's reactions – or that of the rest of his sycophantic followers' at that – would be if they found out.

'Better make sure they don't…' she thought with a mild grimace.  She didn't want to spend the rest of her high school career trying to outrun 65% of the female (and 5% of the male) population.

A giggle escaped her at this thought, followed shortly after by a small sneeze.

"Here."

Naru looked up just as something blue and soft hit her squarely in the face.  A quick glance yielded the fact that it was a large bath towel.  She glared at the dark haired boy who had thrown it at her. "Oi!  What the hell--!"

Sasuke hit a switch on the wall, flooding the small area with warm light – which made the blonde realize how dark outside it had gotten as a result of the storm.  "What're you doing just standing there in the dark?" he asked.

She scowled at him, clenching the towel to keep from hurling it back at him.  It really was very soft, and she was soaked through to the bone… "It's not like I knew where the switch was," she grumbled irritably.  "And it'd be rude of me to go walking around dripping all over the place looking for it…"

The dark haired boy studied her, noting the puddle of water that had collected at her feet.  She really was a sight!  A heavy sigh escaped his lips.  "Well, hurry up and use that towel to dry off," he replied.  "And while you're at it, follow me…"

After another moment of hesitation, Naru stepped out of her shoes as well as her socks, before following after him.  He lead her down the hall he'd first vanished down once entering the house, which the blonde was surprised to find opened up into a rather cozy looking sitting room.  There were several comfortable looking couches, along with a low coffee table stacked with several thick looking books.  On the edge of the table there was a stack of coasters.

Sasuke using coasters… the very thought boggled her mind.

Noticing the boggled expression on her face, Sasuke fixed her with a small frown.  "What's the matter with you?" he asked.

Despite her best efforts, Naru answered with the first thing that came to mind.  "Do you entertain a lot?"

He blinked at her a few moments before his customary scowl affixed to his face.  "No," he answered.  "My brother does."

Naru blinked at him.  "You have a brother?" she asked astonished.

Again his scowl slipped away, replaced by incredulity.  "You didn't know that?"

She blinked again.  "Why would I have?" she countered.  "It's not like I'm one of your fan-girls or something…"

Sasuke's expression closed off again, although he studied her very carefully before speaking again.  "No, you're not."

An uncomfortable silence fell over the room.  Uncertain of what to make of it, Naru carefully unfolded the towel, draping it over her head to blot the excess water out of her hair.
